Hassan Javed
Avon Park High School
Hello, my name is Hassan Javed, and I am a recently graduated senior from Avon Park High School. I will continue my education at Columbia University in the fall and I aspire to major in Economics with a concentration in Political Science with a possible double major in Political Science with a concentration in International Relations. During high school, I served as the President for my class, Vice President for both the Future Business Leaders of America and the National Honor Society, and the Treasurer for the Student Government Association. I also served on the District’s Superintendent Council and as a student representative for my school’s Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) Team. I also began Red Devil Buddies – a peer mentoring initiative – at my high school in my junior year to help underclassmen develop military, vocational, and collegiate post-secondary plans; I developed this initiative in my time as a member of the Citizen University’s Youth Collaboratory: a national youth civic empowerment platform. I am both a first-generation college student and a first-generation American – being my immigrant parents’ American Dream in manifestation. I am matriculating at Columbia University as a Leadership Enterprise for a Diverse America (LEDA) Scholar, National Horatio Alger Scholar, Jack Kent Cooke Scholar, and an APIA Scholar. I have always held God and my faith close and I believe that my accomplishments are some of His innumerable blessings. As I start this new chapter of my life, I am grateful to God to have the support of such amazing friends, family, and organizations. Thank you!
