A Collaboration with Habitat for Humanity

On August 14th Mason G. Smoak Foundation supporters and Mason's family and friends joined a large group of dignitaries, sponsors and volunteers in the Sebring community of Washington Heights for the groundbreaking ceremony of Highlands County Habitat for Humanity Phase 1 construction of Mason's Ridge Community. The community is named Mason's Ridge in honor of the late Mason G. Smoak, who served as a board director for the county's Habitat for Humanity for many years.
Mason was a great supporter of Habitat through both his volunteer hours as well as his finances. Mason's Dad, Edward Smoak said at the ceremony: "This was always Mason's dream, we take no credit for it. He had a real passion for Habitat and he'd be tickled to see this."
The Mason G. Smoak Foundation awarded Habitat for Humanity a grant in 2009 for their “ReHabitat” effort- which as the name suggests, is the repair and maintenance of existing homes that were built or repaired by Habit for Humanity in and around the local community. The grant specifically funded a project to remove a hazardous structure on the back of a Venus family’s home that was left terribly damaged by the 2004 hurricanes and to construct a wheelchair accessible ramp to accommodate the owner’s handicap.
The Foundation looks forward to supporting Habitat more in the future and you can learn more about this project by reviewing the below pictures, clicking on the below article links or going directly to Habitat's website:
